After embarking in a career in aerospace engineering, I pursued an MBA from the University of Aberdeen Business School where I developed an interest in environmental policy and management.

My research focuses on ecological modernisation, environmental / waste management and policy, industrial symbiosis and sustainable industrial development. 

I am an Associate Lecturer for various Business and Management courses in the Open University Business School (OUBS) in the UK. I work as an associate for "Enscape" Environmental and Development Services (specialists in waste and resource management). I deliver lectures on graduate and postgraduate courses offered within the Aberdeen Business School (ABS) at the Robert Gordon University (RGU). I teach Energy Policy and the Environment; Leadership and Strategic Management; Performance, Planning and Decision Making at postgraduate level; and Business Policy, Management Concepts and Enterprise Development at graduate level. I serve on RGU internal boards: RGU Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee, RGU Research Student/Staff Liaison Sub-Committee, RGU Environmental Management Systems & Auditing Group, and RGU Waste Management Group.

I am a member of the following professional institutions: Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) and Business Environment Partnership (BEP). I sit on the  steering group of IEMA and the CIWM new generation group in the North of Scotland. I am a member of the Waste Management Cross Party Group in the Scottish Parliament. I also act in the capacity of a reviewer for the Journal of Industrial Ecology (JIE), Environmental Science & Technology (EST), Journal of Cleaner Production (JCP) etc. I am a member of the editorial boards of  "Business Strategy and the Environment" and "Sustainable Development".           

I am married to Xuelian. Recently we have been blessed with a baby girl "Ella". Xuelian  is very caring and also very supportive of my work. She works as an Accountant in energy sector in the UK.
